Dr. Ivan Amerine
The Metroka Animal Hospital has a historical past. It is very possible that it is the oldest or at least one of the oldest Animal Hospitals still existing within its original walls. The hospital originally opened in 1932 with its original veterinarian Dr. Grey. The hospital was predominately a large animal facility. In those times horses and other farm animals had a greater value as compared to dogs, cats, and other small pets. In 1945 Ivan Amerine D.V.M. purchased the hospital from Dr. Grey and enjoyed a magnificent reputation throughout his thirty-nine year career. In his early years Dr. Amerine was predominately a large animal veterinarian, however by the end of his career the practice was predominately small animal. This transformation occurred as the value of veterinary service to the large animal community declined in the Sandusky area, at the same time small animal pet ownership grew exponentially creating a great demand for small animal veterinary services. In 1986 Michael E. Metroka D.V.M. purchased the practice from Dr. Amerine. He continues to practice at this hospital to this day. During the past twenty-two years the practice has transformed into a full service veterinary hospital.
Michael E. Metroka, D.V.M.
I am an Ohio native; I grew up in Cleveland Ohio. As a youth I became the youngest individual to have achieved the honor of Eagle Scout. After graduating with honors from John Marshall High School in Cleveland, I attended Ohio State University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in pre Med Animal Science. I also graduated with honors from Ohio State University as a D.V.M.
I have resided in the Sandusky area for the past twenty-two years. During that time I have owned and operated the Metroka Animal Hospital, providing medical care and attention for the pets of our community. Currently I have the pleasure of serving on the Board of Trustees for the Erie County Humane Society. I have always been goal oriented and I believe that with my education and experience as a veterinarian I would be an asset to you and your pets health care needs.
My hobbies include travel and boating in and about both the Sandusky Bay and the Erie islands. Currently I enjoy my pet cat Archie who resides at our hospital; many clients who visit our facility enjoy his very unique personality. Additionally I always enjoy special times with my family and friends. In the future I look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality veterinary care to my clients and their beloved pets.

I am a Sandusky Ohio native. I have owned and operated Animal Crackers Dog and Cat Grooming in Castalia Ohio since 1994. I groom all breeds, all sizes, and all attitudes with care. Dog's and cat's are styled according to the clients specifications, which also includes a bath, blow dry, anal gland expression, ears, and nails. Since 2005 Animal Crackers has provided full service grooming at the Metroka Animal Hospital by appointment only. I love animals and my job very much; I get to borrow your pet, love them and send them home. My husband used to tell me that I could have all the animals that I wanted, but after living on a farm that includes all animals from dog's, cat's, horses, goat's, a rabbit, and a hamster, he does not say that anymore. Please come in and see me, and get the style on your pet that you desire.
